The Burden Is Heavy
Read Psalm Chapter 106
Ps 106:13 But they (the Israelites) soon forgot what He had done and did not wait for His counsel. 14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test.
Ps 106:23 So He said He would destroy them—had not Moses, His chosen one, stood in the breach before Him to keep His wrath from destroying them.
Ps 106:30 But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked. 31 This was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come.
I am grasping at straws today. There are men whom I dearly love who are living worldly lives. At times, it is almost more than I can stand, as I grieve over their waywardness and as I long for them to return to our Father. None of them remain in contact with me, so I do not have an opportunity to speak into their lives. All I can do it pray. “All I can do.” Actually, that’s a pretty powerful thing which I can indeed do, but at times it seems like a very little thing.
There is no way that I will claim that my prayers will be the act which eventually brings them to their senses. But today’s verses offer a small ray of hope. Therefore, I will cling to it; I have no other choice. It is my only avenue, the only thing which prevents me from total despair in regard to these men’s welfare.
In the verses for today, both Moses and Phinehas stood before the Lord and cried out in behalf of the Israelites who had gone so far astray from God’s word and instructions. In both cases, the Lord listened to the heartsickness of Moses and Phinehas. Again, I am not claiming any special power in my prayers. I am far below the level of the spiritual qualities of these two great men. My goal is to pray for nine specific men every day for the remainder of my life.
I would ask you to see if God will show you someone or a group of specific people whom you might implore the Lord to awaken from their sleep. In many instances, that is the only hope we have for them.
So many still wandering in the desert…… So many have gone back to Egypt…….. So few are steadfastly making their way to the Promised Land………..Let us stay the course, and never forget our friends who are not among the last group.
Prayer: Lord, our hearts are burdened for certain of our friends. You are fully aware of what is in our hearts. We implore You to speak to the hearts and minds of these men and women. Also, we pray for our friends who are steadfastly walking toward the Promised Land. Keep them, and us, focused on Your goal. Do not allow any of us to turn around and abandon our journey. Thank You for Your faithfulness to bring us safely to an eternity of bliss, in Your fellowship and the fellowship of all our brothers and sisters.
