Better One Day In Your Court
Read 1 Corinthians Chapter 6
1Co 6:1 If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6 But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers!
Our bibles are full of passages which state an obvious fact. Our world does not have the necessary wisdom to judge the children of God. In this passage, Paul’s reference is in regard to matters of a court. Apparently some Corinthian Christians had sued their brothers in a court of law, bringing matters before a worldly court. Paul was appalled at the thought of such a thing. He made his point quite clear.
- Worldly courts are ungodly. – Do we not see this fact in our society today? Our governmental courts make many decisions, pretty much every day, which are completely ungodly. There is little respect for God and His judgments when decisions are made enacting, enforcing, or settling disputes in our worldly courts. Every time God’s word is ignored in a situation involving same-sex attractions and actions, the outcome is ludicrous. We cannot trust their decisions.
- We will someday judge the world (and even angels). – No, I don’t know what that means or how that prophecy will be fulfilled. Nevertheless, it will happen at some time in the future. Don’t tell the world about this. First, they will not believe it. Secondly, if they gave it any serious thought, it would frighten them. The last thing our world wants to hear or believe is that someday God’s people will be totally victorious. There will come a day when God will have the final say in all issues of sin, including homosexuality.
- Even the least wise among Christians have better reasoning power than the world. – Paul said that even men of “little account” can make better decisions than our worldly courts. That has to be the ultimate insult to the wisdom of our world. That doesn’t necessarily mean that every decision a Christian makes is correct. It just means that he has a better shot at it than the wisest of our world judges.
Our world, our society, is in a state of complete ignorance when it comes to God’s word and His truth. That is obvious, as we see governmental bodies and judicial courts making completely incorrect decisions in regard to same-sex marriage and whether it is an offense to our Creator. This is a matter which can only be settled in the Christian court of righteousness, one which is guided only by God and the unadulterated truth from His word.
The members of the Supreme Court will one day bow down in the presence of God and have to admit that they were incorrect. They will have to confess that the US constitution said nothing about the rights of gay men and women. It was never a matter that should have been discussed or decided by any man’s court. That is true for every city, county, state, or nation which tampered with God’s word, believing they had the authority to change His ultimate ruling.
Prayer: Father, we know that You are the final court. We are distressed over the status of our world today. But we also are distressed over the many times we have failed to live in accordance with Your word. We confess our failures today which we have not already confessed. It is our desire to never fail You again. But if we do, we know that we have an Advocate, Jesus Christ, pleading our case before You. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
