First One, Then Another
Read 1 Corinthians Chapter 10
1Co 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. 22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
Do we need another scripture passage like this one? Do we need another reminder that Christ’s followers cannot continue living a gay life? Perhaps we all have that issue down pat. Or maybe some of us are still wavering. Let’s look at another passage just in case there is a remote corner of our minds that has a small amount of doubt.
In this passage, the reference is in regard to eating meat that has been sacrificed to a false god. Paul’s point is not so much whether eating that meat is a sinful thing. He is pointing out that eating that meat as a way of honoring a false god is something a Christian cannot do. When we partake of our Lord’s Supper, we do so as a way of honoring Christ. We do so in
remembrance of Him, reaffirming our attachment and allegiance to Him.
We cannot bestow that same kind of honor to anyone other than God and His Son, Jesus Christ. All of us have been guilty to some extent. We have worshipped God, given Him glory and honor one day, and the next day gone out and worshipped the idol of homosexuality. I say all of us have done so, perhaps I should only say that I have done so. At least I am fairly certain most SSA men and women have as well. There must come a time when we discontinue dividing our loyalties between God and homosexual idolatry.
Jos 24:15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
Ps 86:11 Teach me Your way, O LORD, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.
Mt 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Our Savior is a jealous God. He expects and even commands our complete devotion to Him and His ways. We have lingered long enough sitting on the fence, living on one side one day and the other side the next day. Today would be a good time to climb down off that fence and begin living for Christ and Him alone. Let’s do it.
Prayer: Father, I am tired of my mistakes, and I know many men and women who also are weary of their offenses. You know that the main portions of our hearts are dedicated to You. Continue to strengthen us so that our times of wandering over into those other ways will soon be over. We know that we cannot continue to partake of Your table and also the table of homosexual idolatry. Help us Lord. We are weak vessels, but we belong to You.
