God’s Love NEVER Fails
Read Psalm Chapter 119:81-88
Ps 119:81 My soul faints with longing for Your salvation, but I have put my hope in Your word. 82 My eyes fail, looking for Your promise; I say, “When will You comfort me?” 83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget Your decrees. 84 How long must Your servant wait? When will You punish my persecutors? 85 The arrogant dig pitfalls for me, contrary to Your law. 86 All Your commands are trustworthy; help me, for men persecute me without cause. 87 They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken Your precepts. 88 Preserve my life according to Your love, and I will obey the statutes of Your mouth.
The SSA man or woman is very vulnerable to discouragement. All of us have gone through periods of desperation, when we felt there was no relief possible. Some of us experience those times frequently. In this passage, the Psalmist was going through such a time in his life. Look at how he described his dilemma.
1. My soul faints with longing.
2. My eyes fail, looking for Your promise.
3. When will You comfort me?
4. I am like a wineskin in the smoke.
5. How long must I wait?
6. Preserve my life.
Those phrases aptly describe how we feel at times. We have especially felt that way during those times when we were despairing over our same-sex attractions. But we can find ourselves distraught over many other kinds of circumstances also.
It is during those times when we must hold on to our hope in the Lord with the same tenacity which the Psalmist did.
1. I have put my hope in Your word.
2. I do not forget Your decrees.
3. All Your commands are trustworthy.
4. I have not forsaken Your precepts.
5. I will obey the statutes of Your mouth.
We really have no other viable option. If we seek any other source of comfort we will ultimately be disappointed. All self-medications will fail us. Drugs, alcohol, food, and yes, even satisfying our sexual temptations, will only lead to more despair and disappointment. Our one true source of strength and comfort will not fail us. We are simply asked to wait for it, for as long as is necessary. Our Father is the ultimate source of help and He does not fail His children.
Dt 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.
Dt 32:4 He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.
Can’t imagine that anyone needed this devotion today more than me!!
Prayer: Father, as I think about my children and grandchildren today, I know that You are the faithful Lord mentioned in these verses. I know that You love them more than I ever could. I know that whatever befalls them is something that You have allowed for a purpose. We do wait for You, Lord, knowing that You will be faithful to preserve us to the end.
