How Much Longer?
Read Zechariah Chapters 10 and 11
Zec 10:2 The idols speak deceit, diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd.
Zec 11:4 This is what the LORD my God says: “Pasture the flock marked for slaughter. 5 Their buyers slaughter them and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, ‘Praise the LORD, I am rich!’ Their own shepherds do not spare them. 6 For I will no longer have pity on the people of the land,” declares the LORD. “I will hand everyone over to his neighbor and his king. They will oppress the land, and I will not rescue them from their hands.”
That is the question for today. How much longer will the Lord tolerate the growing rebellion against Him and His word? We see throughout the Old and New Testaments the nature and character of God. He abides rebellion for a period of time, then there comes a time when He displays His wrath against those who choose to ignore His directives. Men can say “God is love” all day long for the rest of their lives, and it will not change the fact that God is also a God of wrath.
Our nation grows further away from God every day. More and more “Christian” leaders are getting on the bandwagon of sin. Denominations are consecrating and ordaining gay men and women to be among the number of their leaders. Their diviners have seen visions that lie. They have had dreams which are false. They are giving comfort to gay men and women who plan to spend their lives acting out on their same-sex desires. Therefore, the people wander like sheep without a shepherd.
Chapter 11 gives us great insight into what is going to happen to those who have misled and deceived their flocks. Even more disturbing is the future of those who have been misled. They will be marked for slaughter. God will no longer have pity on the people. There is not an iota of doubt – our country will fall. Every nation that has at one time been called God’s people, and have fallen away from Him, has come to a time when God destroys it.
Once again, we must remind ourselves that we cannot allow ourselves to be duped. We must be among the very small minority who did not fall to the false teachings of our “leaders.” We have to find leaders who are still holding on to the truth. Franklin Graham comes to mind, and there are a few others who remain faithful to God’s word. Unfortunately, the remnant of people always has suffered when the time for judgment has arrived. The true believers among the Israelites suffered greatly when their nation was conquered and led into captivity in Babylon. The remnant of Christians will suffer as well, when our country is judged.
I have a great Christian friend who disagrees with me on this point. He firmly believes that God is going to send His Spirit upon our land one more time, and people will turn back to God. I hope he is correct. If anyone wants to think like him, I have no problem with that. We can and should pray for another great revival for our people. I join everyone in that prayer. I want that to happen. Maybe I am too much of a cynic. May the Lord quickly show me if I am off base on these thoughts. I certainly do not claim to be 100% right all the time.
Of this we can be certain: if God does not bring revival to our land, then my worst fears will be realized.
Prayer: Lord, I’ve never wanted to be wrong any more than I do on this subject. Whatever Your will is, we accept it. We pray for that Holy Spirit revival that my friend believes will happen. If that is not Your will, prepare Your people for what is to come. Strengthen us so that we will do no less that bring honor and glory to You whatever circumstances we face. You and You alone know what is best, what must be done, and we know it will be accomplished.
