It’s Really An Easy Choice

It’s Really An Easy Choice

Read Psalm Chapter 138

Ps 138:1 I will praise You, O LORD, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing Your praise. 2 I will bow down toward Your holy temple and will praise Your name for Your love and Your faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your name and Your word.

Do we need another reason to steadfastly stay on God’s pathway? No, we really don’t. But when another one appears to us, it’s a good thing to explore it and give it serious thought. Verse 2 is powerfully loaded with reasons why it is in our best interests to continue walking with our Lord. Let’s begin with the latter part of verse 2.

God has exalted above all things His name and His word. Are there any things which are more important than Him and His word? I can’t think of any, and there’s a good reason for that. God Himself has chosen to make His name and His word to be exalted above all things. He has every right to do so.

He is the Creator of everything which exists. As the Creator of all things, what being or creature or creation could possibly be more exalted than God Himself? It is ludicrous to believe that anything which He created could possibly be more important than the One who created it.

Since He created all things, His word becomes automatically exalted. Because He created, He is firmly established as the only authority with the ability and right to govern and control that which was created. (Hopefully, everyone is following the logic here). With that kind of authority, His word becomes exalted, just as the Creator/Writer is exalted.

To state all this more simply and concise, God and His word stand high above anything and everything else which exists.

Aside from all that, verse 2 contains some other mighty, forceful, compelling reasons for us to continue to worship and follow Him with all our heart, soul, and mind.

1.       His love – Despite His high position, He has chosen to pour out His love to us, His chosen children.
2.       His faithfulness – Because His word is exalted above all else, we can be positively sure that He will fulfill every promise in His word. What a blessing to know that!!

We have every reason to continue our walk with God and Christ. Need more?

Mic 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
 3
Our SSA desires and temptations are nothing in comparison with the compelling call to follow Christ, obey Him, and turn every aspect of our lives over to Him. Nothing good comes from our fleshly yearnings, but everything good comes from our total devotion to Him.

Prayer: Lord, why do we even give a moment’s thought to following our enemy’s ways? How silly of us to weigh out our options and choose wrongly! Thank You for giving us every reason thinkable to remain on Your pathway. You and Your word are indeed exalted above all things.
