The End Result Will Be Glorious
Read Malachi Chapter 3
Mal 3:14 “You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out His requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty? 15 But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.’ ” 16 Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in His presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored His name. 17 “They will be Mine,” says the LORD Almighty, “in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. 18 And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
Have you ever asked yourself, “What’s the use?” Of course you have. As we have battled SSA and made many mistakes along the way, we all have pondered that question. At times it has seemed that we had no hope of being able to control our same-sex attractions. Our failures often haunt us to the point that we wonder if there is any reason to carry on. The book of Malachi shows us that some of God’s people in his time asked that question. “What did we gain by carrying out His requirements?”
Further, they could see that those who did not attempt to follow God were prospering. They seemed to be doing just fine without God. They saw evildoers and those who challenged God reaping good benefits from their worldly ways. It seemed to make no difference whether a man followed God or not. Guess what! God heard their laments and had a great answer to their question. The Lord felt their pain, their desperation, and graciously gave them a beautiful promise.
Do any of us think for one minute that God treats our lamentations any different than He treated those from this passage? No, He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He knows how difficult our lives are as we stumble and bumble our way through our temptations. He knows that we are really trying to follow Him. He knows our hearts and sees that we really do wish to be done with our evil desires. He also understands our thoughts as we see the openly gay world seemingly prospering in today’s society. They are victorious at every turn, slowly gaining acceptance in the eyes of most men. They are winning more court battles and commanding that everyone respect their unholy relationships.
The Lord has a promise for you and me. He has a scroll of remembrance for all who fear Him and honor His name. That scroll of remembrance says that we will belong to Him. We will be a part of His treasured possession. We will be spared. There will come a day when God makes very clear the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
It is NOT futile to serve the Lord. We are gaining much for mourning over our sinfulness and our continuing to seek godliness, righteousness, goodness, etc. We are not perfect, but we want to be. We sin, but we are repentant. While we are in mourning over our failures, we have every intention to never sin again. The Holy Spirit within us is our constant reminder that we are not like the world. We are not arrogantly and willfully disobeying the Lord’s direction to avoid same-sex sinfulness. There is a difference between us and those who have no regrets about their same-sex actions.
Our road is arduous, but it is a piece of cake when compared to the fate of all who have no fear of God and no regard to His word.
Prayer: Thank You for all the many promises You have given those who desire to obey You and continue to battle fleshly desires. We do not deserve the favorite son status promised in this passage of Your word. Your grace and mercy are far beyond our ability to understand.
