The Only Authority

The Only Authority

Read John Chapter 7

Jn 7:16 Jesus answered, “My teaching is not My own. It comes from Him who sent Me. 17 If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether My teaching comes from God or whether I speak on My own. 18 He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

Jesus was and is the Son of God! He was and is one-third of the Trinity! He has the power over life and death. There are no limits to His Deity and all that it entails. Despite all of that, in this passage He admits that He is in submission to Someone else. He declared that what He has said and taught did not originate from His own thinking. Everything He did on earth was at the direction of His Father. The things He said and did were not His own.

So, what right has any finite man have to speak anything on his own; anything which has not been given to him from above? What right does he have to look into God’s holy word and declare, “Hmmm, that must not be from God.”? How dare anyone on earth claim to have a better word than the One who created all things which exists: the One who holds first place in knowledge, wisdom, and authority!

If Jesus dared not speak or do anything which did not have the approval of the Father, how can any of us do so? The arrogance of mankind knows no bounds. There is no other authority but God. He gave authority for Jesus to speak on His behalf, and He dared not say or do anything without His permission. Before He left earth, He passed on His mission to us.

Mt 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

As long as we remain upon this earth, we are subject to His authority. We have been given a charge to carry His truth to a lost and undying world. As we do so, we must be very careful to only repeat what the Father has said. We have absolutely no right to take God’s word and change it to say what we want it to say. Specifically, we cannot open even a crack in the door in regard to same-sex behaviors. God has spoken, and He will not change His mind. That door must remain locked and sealed forever.

Anyone who declares same-sex actions to be acceptable practice in the eyes of our Creator has become a blasphemer. He does not speak for God. He has revealed that he has not listened to God. He has decided he is wiser than God. We must no longer listen to that man, no matter what his earthly credentials.

Dt 5:32 So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

2Jn 1:9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. 11 Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.

Prayer: Lord, this is scary. As we speak, we must be extremely careful not to pervert Your truth. Please teach us Your ways and Your truth. Do not let us turn to the left or to the right. Forgive us for every errant word we have spoken, that did not come from Your lips and Your written word. We tremble at the thought of misleading anyone, as we speak of You.
