Which One Is Trustworthy?

Which One Is Trustworthy?

Read 1 Corinthians Chapter 2

1Co 2:6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Today’s Christian has a vital obligation, a sacred trust if you will, to speak God’s truth to a lost and dying world. Any child of God who has drifted away from the teachings of God’s word is failing to carry out God’s will. Even if our message veers only slightly off course, it becomes tainted. When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he understood how important it is for Christians to deliver an unadulterated truth.

In this passage, he makes a clear distinction between the wisdom of God’s message and the wisdom of “this age or of the rulers of this age.” Even back then, Paul could see how very different the two were – worlds apart, actually. Recently we noted that there are only two masters – God and the god of this world. They have completely opposite goals. One is designed to heal and save. The other is designed to utterly destroy.

Of course, we must apply this idea to our world of SSA. When our Lord asks us to avoid same-sex actions, He gives us no exceptions to His rule. There are no caveats to His word. Sin kills and destroys. It doesn’t sort-of kill and destroy. It is meant to separate a man from God for all of eternity. Most of you, if not all, know that is true. That is why you and I are seeking to overcome our weakness. Our occasional missteps will not kill or destroy us, because of the work Christ did on the cross. But a man’s stubborn refusal to repent and strive to turn away from his sins will indeed kill and destroy him.

Paul makes these very important points:

1.       God’s wisdom is completely different from the wisdom of this age.
2.       The rulers of his day do not understand God’s wisdom. It has not been imparted to them by the Holy Spirit.
3.       God’s wisdom is a ‘secret wisdom.’ It is a gift from our Creator, given only to His children.

There is no doubt that Paul’s message is equally true today. If our leaders, not only our nation’s leaders but also many of our ‘religious’ leaders, understood God’s wisdom, none of them would be giving a nod of approval to the sins of mankind. We could list many examples where the wisdom of this world has infiltrated into all the governments that have ever existed, and into the teachings of many of our religious leaders. Paul said, “If they had understood, they would not have…………………

Every SSA man I have mentored has at one time been exposed to Godly wisdom in regard to homosexuality. Most remain true to that wisdom, but some have not. Also, there are some sincere Christians, destined to spend eternity with our Lord, are now telling other SSA men and women that they “can have their cake and eat it too.” Their love and compassion is commendable, but they are no longer “speaking the wisdom of the mature.” God’s word does not change according to the customs of the age.

Prayer: Keep us focused, Lord, on Your word only. Give us the wisdom and knowledge necessary to ward off the wisdom of our world. Bring back our friends who no longer adhere to Your truth and wisdom.
